Snow accumulated 3-5 inches during the early morning hours of Thursday from the first of two storms to affect the Seacoast.

Snow will overspread the area from west to east late Wednesday night, and could be heavy at times before mixing with sleet and freezing rain Thursday.

The lowest wind chill recorded in the Seacoast region was -48 in York and -46 in Plaistow, according to National Weather Service observations. But Mount Washington set a national record.

Winds will gust to 30-40 mph Friday through Saturday which will drop wind chills to -30 to -45.

Temperatures will begin to drop as a cold front pushes through Thursday night, keeping temperatures no higher than the teens on Friday.

Heavy snow starts to fall by late Wednesday afternoon, but changes during the evening to a wintry mix and then rain by Thursday morning.

Crews worked all night to get the lights back on across the Seacoast region as the storm pulled away from the New England coast.

Many schools are closed and thousands have no power as heavy, wet snow accumulates on power lines.

The Seacoast's second winter storm of the past week will bring another 6-8 inches of snow to inland areas, but rain will hold down totals along the immediate coast of Rockingham County.

Most of the snow fell in the early morning hours.
