Did You Know New England Has the Most Popular Super Bowl Food?
While we long for the days when the New England Patriots ruled the gridiron as the most accomplished NFL team year after year, at least we know we still rule in the food department.
While we love our Chips and salsa, potato chips, French onion dip, or pizza as go-to dishes at Super Bowl parties, things are changing, and we're right there with the trend.
It used to be that if that apartment in Boston or Cape Cod-style house in New Hampshire had an incredible platter of nachos or plenty of chicken wings, they were most definitely the cool party on the block.
It's safe to say that over the years, food has become much more of a centerpiece up there with the importance of the commercials. Just simply putting out a bowl of guacamole with chips and ordering pizza isn't going to cut it. Even that big pot of chili or simmering to perfection isn't going to save you.
According to Mental Floss, after Thanksgiving, the Super Bowl is the country’s biggest day of the year for gorging on food. And while we hope to one day cheer our Pats again on the biggest Sunday in NFL football, right now, it's about either cheering our favorite of the two teams, simply waiting for the hilarious, celebrity-filled commercials, or the excitement of the halftime show.
Oh, AND FOOD! By the way, amazing desserts matter, too.
Researchers looked at about 1300 food types and around 300 dessert-oriented keywords to determine state-specific preferences, with a focus on search trends leading up to and immediately following the big game. [Website] Coffeeness gathered information from each state, you can see which foods and desserts are most-liked throughout the country.
So, are you ready for the savory results thanks to Coffeeness?
New England's #1 Super Bowl food is Buffalo Chicken Dip! YUM. As a matter of fact, it's the most popular around the country, as you'll see in the maps below.
When it comes to sweetness, we're split.
While Maine is all about Banana Bread, Massachusetts loves its Tiramisu. Meanwhile, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, and Connecticut enjoy the most popular Super Bowl dessert out there: Peanut Butter Blossoms.
PS: A 30-second spot is going for $7 million for this year's Super Bowl 59 when the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans. Just a reminder, this gridiron finale is Sunday, February 9.
