Just when you think you've heard of all there is to do in your home state, a new place comes along that takes you by surprise and reminds you that there's always more to discover.

This writer recently spent a weekend with a friend in North Conway. While on the road, we drove past this scenic covered bridge in Glen, but this wasn't your ordinary covered bridge. It was a gift shop.

Making a mental note of this finding, we concluded that we'd stop by during our visit. When we did, we found ourselves inside what has to be one of the most charming gift shops around.

It's called Covered Bridge Gift Shoppe, and it's literally situated inside a historic covered bridge above the Saco River. How quintessentially New Hampshire is that?

According to the Covered Bridge Gift Shoppe website, the bridge was first constructed back in 1850, and carried traffic for over 80 years until 1939. It was 26 years later when the property's then-owner, Isabelle Casinelli, decided to set up a gift shop inside the bridge.

As for what you can find in this unique space? All kinds of things. This writer unfortunately didn't snap any pictures, but here's what the store's website had to say:

We feature a distinctive collection of country home decor items including candles and accessories, throws, pillows, wall art and pottery, chimes, plush animals and a very large selection of flags, all at reasonable prices in a friendly atmosphere. In addition, we offer a full line of souvenirs including a great selection of T-shirts and many covered bridge items ranging from prints and ornaments to mugs and earrings.

In short, this is the place to be if you're looking for souvenirs or gifts from your time in the White Mountains. The property's also home to the Covered Bridge House Bed & Breakfast, which features five guest rooms.

We're wishing the folks at the Covered Bridge Shoppe all the best as they continue to operate their business and maintain this historic bridge for future generations to enjoy.

The Covered Bridge Shoppe is open every day from 10am-5pm at 404 Route 302 in Glen, New Hampshire. To learn more about them, click here.
