We frequently hear about tragedies that have happened because people were "in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Fortunately, this was the exact opposite.

According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, three teenage boys are being called heroes because they were in the right place at the right time.

The press release explains that just before 2 a.m. on New Year's Day a fire was reported at a home on North Stagecoach Road in Atkinson.

The press release says, in part:

The structure, an 1800s farmhouse with an attached barn, was fully engulfed in flames when emergency responders arrived.

Fortunately for the occupants of the home, three teenage boys, who just happened to be nearby, spotted the fire and helped the people inside the home escape.

Of the rescue, State Fire Marshal Shawn Esler said:

"Had they not been in the right place at the right time, this could have been a much more tragic fire event."

Because of the extent of the damage to the home, investigators have not been able to determine the cause of the fire.  However, the press release does say that they have not ruled out electrical issues.

In addition to being a residence, it appears the property is also home to a seasonal gift shop.  Learn more about Farmhouse Gifts on the company's website.
