Here’s Why the Government May Soon Send You a $2,000 Check – Maine, Massachusetts, & New Hampshire Take Note
One of the most memorable parts of the pandemic were the 'stimulus' checks that we all got.
I put the word stimulus in quotes because the intention of the money was to get people to spend it on whatever they wanted (fun stuff) in order to stimulate the economy. However, because of the reduction in hours and the layoffs, most people ended up spending the money on the necessities.
Why are we talking about the pandemic stimulus checks? Because the news we got today reminded us of those checks.
Why Does President Trump Want to Send Americans Money
According to an article on the WGME website, President Trump wants to take some of the money earned from recent tariffs and send it to hard working Americans.
In an interview with One America News Network, Trump explained that much of the money collected through tariffs will go toward reducing the national debt. Still, he said it might also make sense to return some of that money directly to the public.
He mentioned the amount could range from $1,000 to $2,000 and said it would be a great idea.
Right now, the national debt sits at about $36 trillion, and Trump said tackling that has to come first. According to Fox Business, the administration’s new tariff program has already brought in roughly $215 billion in revenue this year.
If Trump moves forward with the plan to send out checks, it would still need approval from Congress. Back in July, Senator Josh Hawley from Missouri introduced a bill that would send rebate checks to working-class Americans.
The checks would work similarly to how the stimulus checks had worked. You would get a certain amount of money for each person in the household. Some sources say it would be $600 per adult and dependent child. So, a family of four would get $2,400.
