The Surprising Foods & Drinks Restricted or Banned in Maine, New Hampshire, & Massachusetts
Okay take a journey with me, imagine for a second you are walking into a grocery store. You're craving something nostalgic all to be told, "We no longer carry that, it's banned in this state." You still with me?
Yep, New England has some pretty exotic and peculiar food bans that'll make you do a double-take. Let's begin with a few that stood out to me:
Kinder Surprise Eggs
According to NH magazine, "Based on a 1930s law forbidding candy containing non-food objects inside, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not allow Kinder Surprise Eggs to be sold domestically because of a potential choking risk."

I can hear the sound of all of the childhood dreams being shattered by the FDA.
These chocolate eggs with a toy surprise inside are a no-go thanks to a 1938 rule banning food with “non-nutritive” objects inside. You will have to try and enjoy the less fun Kinder Joy version instead.

Flamin’ Hot Cheetos
Love them or hate them, these fiery snacks have sparked controversy, according to Yahoo.
They may still be for sale but there are changes that may come. Schools in California and beyond have already banned them. It's all because of the red dye.
In my opinion, they’re a red-stained disaster waiting to happen.

Absinthe
Okay, so I have to admit. I have tried absinth before. It's known as the "green fairy" drink and it's allowed but only if it's thujone free, according to Original Absinthe.
Turns out, that specific chemical is responsible for the drinks wild reputation and is heavily regulated, so don't expect hallucinations. Just an overpriced pretty green drink.
So from choking hazards to fairy drinks and don't forget the smelly cheese, these bans let us all in on New England's banned foods and drinks.
A few other shocking items on the list are Stornoway Black Pudding, Beluga caviar, Shark Fins, and Japanese Pufferfish. Have you ever tried any of these foods?
