I’ve always loved whoopie pies. Growing up in Maine, they were one of those treats that felt special no matter how many times you had them. Since becoming gluten free, I honestly have not had one in a long time, which makes events like the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival feel even more nostalgic and meaningful to me.

Traditions like this are part of why people love Maine so much. Locals look forward to these iconic events every year, and travelers from all over come to experience them too. They bring people together and celebrate the simple things that make Maine unique.

On June 13th, one of Maine’s sweetest traditions returns with the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival in Dover-Foxcroft at the Piscataquis Valley Fairgrounds. Held rain or shine from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the festival celebrates Maine’s official state treat with bakers from across New England serving tens of thousands of whoopie pies.

Visitors can use wooden nickel tokens to sample over 100 flavors, vote for their favorites, and purchase extras to bring home. The festival also features live music, local artists, crafters, food vendors, rides, games, and activities for kids. Guests can participate in the “Earn Your Whoopie Pie” 3K race or even watch whoopie pie eating contests throughout the day.

Events like this show what Maine is truly about: community, tradition, local pride, and creating memories that people come back for year after year.
