
This Beloved Maine Pizza Spot Is Being Called a Hidden Gem
While Maine has so many awesome spots to grab a slice, one local favorite was recently highlighted on a national level.
The idea of a hidden gem is interesting on its own, but sharing where to find one is even more intriguing, because once everyone knows about it, you have to wonder… is it really hidden anymore?

On Sunday, April 19th, the popular Facebook page Hidden Gems US Travel highlighted Pat’s Pizza, specifically the original location in Orono.
They noted that the longtime favorite has been serving some of Maine’s most delicious pizza for nearly 100 years, dating back to 1931 when C.D. ‘Pat’ Farnsworth opened a small café with just $175 and a dream of running his own place.

The post continued by explaining how Pat’s Pizza really took off in 1953, when Pat and his wife Fran added pizza to the menu.
Making fresh dough and their own sauce quickly became a hit. It also highlighted how the small café grew into a go-to hangout for University of Maine students and locals, and today, with around 15 locations, they’re still serving the same classic favorites that made them famous.
And there you have it! Pat’s Pizza, specifically the original location in Orono, was recently recognized as a ‘hidden gem.’
