
6 Biddeford, Maine, Restaurants That Closed Their Doors for Good in 2024
Boston Magazine said in a 2023 article not to sleep on Biddeford, Maine, as it is "blossoming" into a real foodie destination.
The city is home to the legendary Palace Diner which, according to Reader's Digest, serves up the best burger in the state. And Eater Boston pointed out several notable places to grab a bite, including Catface Cafe, Magnus on Water, and Coletti’s.
So it's bittersweet that while Biddeford is having this burgeoning food scene, five restaurants had to close their doors for good in 2024.
JackRabbit Cafe in Biddeford, Maine
JackRabbit Cafe, which opened in 2021, served up Scandinavian-inspired food. The restaurant announced on Instagram in early January 2024 that the decision to close was based on a "number of factors" but they did have an "underperforming [2023]."
Elda in Biddeford, Maine
Elda, which opened in 2017, was a fine-dining restaurant, and according to the Portland Press Herald, "helped jumpstart Biddeford's food scene." Thankfully the Biddeford closure comes with a positive, as the restaurant is simply moving locations.
In an Instagram post in March 2024, it was revealed that Elda would be relocating to Portland. The restaurant's website notes that they expect to be open in spring 2025.
Lorne Wine in Biddeford, Maine
Lorne Wine, which opened in 2019, was a wine bar and retail shop. While not technically a restaurant, the website did note that they had a "little menu of cheese plates, charcuterie, and house-made snacks."
According to Portland Food Map, they decided not to renew their lease and closed in June 2024.
Vickie's Veggie Table in Biddeford, Maine
Vickie's Veggie Table opened in 2022. According to its Facebook page, it was a vegan restaurant that served "delicious sandwiches, açaí bowls and cold pressed juice."
The restaurant noted on Facebook that their last day would be in October 2024 and that they were grateful for the two years they were open.
The Pint and Pawn in Biddeford, Maine
The Pint and Pawn, which opened in 2023, was a board game lounge and bar.
In a Facebook video, it was announced that despite all the bonds and great experiences at the spot, "the challenges have become too great." They closed in November 2024.
Dizzy Birds Rotisserie in Biddeford, Maine
Dizzy Birds Rotisserie, which opened in 2019, was a casual restaurant with great comfort food and its own chicken club.
In an email to loyalty members, the restaurant announced its closure for the end of December 2024, according to Saco Bay News. That same email noted that the catering business will continue as well as that they are working on some kind of franchise model for the future.

While these closures are unfortunate, Biddeford will continue to grow as a food destination.
