Patrick Dempsey may have become the star of Grey's Anatomy, not to mention movies like Made of Honour, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Bridget Jones Baby, Disenchanted, and Can't Buy Me Love. I remember seeing that movie at the Auburn Mall's tiny twin movie theater, not even realizing the 21-year-old guy in it was born one town over in Lewiston.

Dempsey is a Maine boy through and through, and never forgets his roots. He comes back to Maine often, and has even visited us here in our studios. He even hugged me, which was awkward for me, but it was Patrick Dempsey. What are you going to do? Say "no thanks"?

His creation of the Dempsey Center has helped thousands of people cope with a cancer diagnosis. Even though it's pretty much in his hometown, he also takes time to visit other hospitals like Maine Medical Center.

Dempsey was in town at the end of June to play in the Drive Fore Kids celebrity golf tournament, which not only benefits the Dempsey Center, but also the Barabara Bush Children's Hospital.

He put a lot of smiles on people's faces when he showed up, and spent a lot of time visiting with patients and staff.

In the video, a crowd is waiting at the nurses' station of the R6 neurology unit as he approaches, and one woman excitedly says, "I want to touch you." Dempsy goes all in, saying "Don't be shy", and gives her a big hug and kiss on the cheek.

Mainers are proud to have such a generous man who grew up in Maine and made it big, comes back regularly to where it all started, and puts smiles on people's faces.
