Over the past six months, Maine has sadly had to say goodbye to a number of restaurants.

From hidden gems to town staples, these spots have delivered delicious meals and lasting memories for many, whether they were here for decades or just a year.

The dining landscape is always changing, sure, and though the doors have closed for some, that won't take away from the flavors and moments you might have had.

Maine Restaurant Closings 2025

The first few months of 2025 saw what felt like a big wave of restaurant closings, including national chains like Cracker Barrel in South Portland to longstanding places like Anneke Jans in Kittery.

Sping saw more change with the quiet closing of the last remaining Elevation Burger joints in the state, and more recently, Obscura Café & Drinkery in Lewiston ended its tenure in June.

Why Did Maine Restaurants Close in 2025?

If you're wondering why all these closures? There are a multitude of reasons from each location, with some overlap as well.

Some of the answers probably sound familiar to you, too.

Things like rising costs, increased rent, time for a change, family commitments, and dealing with post-COVID challenges were mentioned.

Despite that, the restaurants all praised their customers and hard-working staff during their tenure.

So while we have to say goodbye to these places, and unfortunately, likely some more as the year continues, we'll never forget the great food and good times we got to have when they were here.
