If I had to guess the one fight that will always be fought between local Mainers and out-of-staters, it's probably the fight over how to pronounce Bangor.

Truthfully though, Bangor has no business not being pronouncer "Banger," and we all know it.

The three words I'm about to tell you below all come from my own studies that I'd put on air. I'd allow Maine to answer which words or town names are the most inconvenient to say correctly, and these are the top words that almost everybody had voted on.

1. Bangor. Obviously, this one I mentioned earlier. This one is almost the elite town name that represents mispronunciation entirely.  The poor town is commonly pronounced as Bang-ER, hard ER. It's actually pronounced with a hard OR, but apparently, that's tough for most people.

2. Topsham. Another poor town that is constantly pronounced like Top-SHAM. LOL. Another one though, that I totally understand the confusion. It took me a long time to learn that it's actually pronounced Top-SUM. Good luck remembering that because for some reason the human brain wants to go right back to sham every time.

3. Minot. Also a town in Maine. I typically hear people pronouncing it MINUTE, which, rightfully so, I'll give them that one. It's actually pronounced like this: My-Nut or MY-NUHT. Insert dirty joke, we get it.

Here's a list of 10 words or cities in Maine that out-of-stater's can't pronounce.

Also, if we wanted to circle back to dirty jokes, check out this wild list of dirty town names:
