These Maine Craft Breweries Cracked America’s Top 50 for Sales in 2025
Welcome to Maine, one of America’s true beer meccas.
How do I know this? According to Statista, Maine had the second-highest number of breweries per capita in the U.S. in 2024, with 14.6 per 100,000 residents. Like I said—we like beer.
This love affair with suds is certainly a big reason why the industry is thriving here, but it’s not the only one. It’s also a major draw for the hordes of tourists who visit Maine every year. Some might even call it a beer oasis.
With all this success, it’s no surprise that two of Maine’s most popular breweries landed on a list of greatness: the Top 50 best-performing breweries in America.
According to the Brewers Association—the organization that represents small craft breweries—both Allagash Brewing and Maine Beer Company rank in the Top 50 for annual production. That’s quite an impact for such a small state.
What Maine Craft Breweries are Ranked Nationally?
Allagash Brewing comes in at an impressive 21st place.
And what a success story it is—Allagash has become a national powerhouse in the Belgian-style and craft beer world.
There’s good reason for that: the beer is outstanding. You’ll find a wide range of innovative styles and flavors, including ales, stouts, saisons, barrel-aged brews, lagers, IPAs, and plenty of Belgian varieties most of us can’t even pronounce. Even the pickiest beer fan is likely to find something they love—and might even call it one of the best beers they’ve ever had.
The other Maine brewery on the list is Maine Beer Company, which finished at number 46.
Maine Beer Company has been one of the premier breweries in the state for well over a decade. From its humble beginnings brewing out of a garage to its current state-of-the-art facility in Freeport, it’s one of the great success stories of Maine’s craft beer movement. The brewery produces a variety of styles but is probably best known for its IPAs.
