Use Your Old Mattress to Race Down a Ski Mountain in Maine this March
When the winter arrives in Maine, there can be a lot of different and unique things to do. For some, that involves skiing or snowboarding. For others, it's a chance to hop on a snowmobile and traverse through the vast wilderness Vacationland offers.
But for so many, winter is a time to be bored. Not skilled or motivated enough to skate, ski and snowmobile. So what is there to do? How about race an old mattress down a mountain?
The Mattress Race is Happening in Maine this March
Pleasant Mountain in Bridgton, Maine, is holding the great mattress race on Saturday, March 15. It's not a joke, the mountain is inviting people to sign up to be part of the race and then show up with a decked out old mattress and compete against would-be mattress champions.
The race requires a real mattress. No air mattresses or waterbeds allowed. But there is no size limit. Got an old twin collecting dust? Use it. How about a queen taking up room? Time to put it to good use.
Requirements and Prizes for the Mattress Race
Naturally, sliding a mattress down a ski mountain comes with some risk. Competitors will be asked to sign a waiver. Not only that, each rider must wear a helmet during their race to enhance safety.
But depending on your decoration and speed skills, you could walk away a true champion. Prizes will be handed out for the most dynamic and uniquely decorated mattress. And since this is a race, the fastest mattress will also score a prize.
How to Join the Mattress Race
Pleasant Mountain has all the details right here. You'll have a three-hour window to register and then another hour to mentally prepare yourself to become a champion.
The race on March 15 is at 1pm.
