When it comes to keeping your skin looking fresh, people in Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire are living in prime territory. These states snagged the top three spots for being the best places to live for your skin. So, what makes our corner of the country so special?

According to Newsweek, Maine’s at the top, scoring a super low 6.3 out of 50, mainly thanks to its minimal UV exposure. Compared to the rest of the country, it’s not overly sunny, which means less skin damage. The sun exposure score was just 2 out of 50. And on top of that, Maine has some of the cleanest air in the country, so our pores can breathe easy.

As I mentioned, Newsweek states that a lot of this comes down to air quality—cleaner air means fewer toxins messing with our skin. They also factored in stress levels, because it's apparently it's not a myth, less stress equals fewer wrinkles and breakouts. And let's not forget the importance of sleep, aka “beauty sleep.” Humidity even plays a part, since moisture in the air keeps your skin hydrated and as you may know, Northern New England typically only experiences humid conditions 2-3 months out of the year.

Who would have known less sun would be a blessing and a curse. We are also lucky to be breathing cleaner air and enjoying life with a lower level of stress. Want to keep that skin youthful and healthy? Apparently Northern New England is the place to be.
