Many large retailers across America have spent the last few years struggling financially.

Some of those retailers like Bed Bath and Beyond and Joann Fabric have simply folded their longstanding retail footprint.

Other struggling brands like JC Penney and Macy's have continued to try adjust their product and stores in hopes of surviving tumultuous times in the retail landscape.

Another well-known name in retail is attempting to join JC Penney and Macy's in fixing things financially on the fly.

Petco Announces Closure Of 25 Stores Across The Country

According to The Street, Petco is planning on shutting down 25 stores across the country by the end of 2025.

It will be the second consecutive year in which Petco slims down their retail footprint.

Petco is going through what they call a "transformative' period for the brand. Closing down underperforming stores while offering new products, services and other reasons for people to visit a physical store versus shop online.

Two New England Petco Stores Have Already Been Permanently Closed

According to Cheapism, the full list of the 25 Petco stores that will close in 2025 hasn't been released. But a handful of those stores have already permanently ceased operations, including a pair in New England.

Petco stores in Topsfield, Massachusetts and Milford, Massachusetts, are now permanently closed.

Additional New England stores could face permanently closure by the end of the year.

Petco currently operates 5 stores in Maine. They're located in Auburn, Augusta, Bangor, Topsham as well as South Portland.
