Less than a 20-minute drive from Portland, Yarmouth boasts an excellent school system, a friendly community, and gorgeous views along the Royal River. Looking to settle your family into a spot that’s peaceful but yet connected? Yarmouth could be a great option.

Freeport

Locals know Freeport mainly for its vibrant shopping scene, village atmosphere, and of course, the flagship L.L.Bean store. Whether that’s a pro or a con for you, Freeport also has a tight-knit community and plenty of rural areas for those who enjoy both shopping and a relaxed, small-town vibe.
