For many kids growing up in New England, a trip to one of the region's amusement parks is a lasting memory. If you need further proof of that, adults-only nights at a pair of New England's biggest amusement parks have become an instant hit.

Story Land started their successful nostalgia nights several years ago, and Funtown joined the adults-only party recently as well. So as the temperatures rise and summer gets into full swing, what is holding New England's largest water park back from having their own adults-only night?

Water Country Would Face Multiple Challenges

One of the first obstacles that Water Country would face in attempting to pull off an adults-only night would be hours of operation. The park is generally only open seven or eight hours per day, thanks in large part to weather conditions and lighting on the grounds.

In order to pull off an adults-only evening, Water Country would have to open earlier than 10am and close their gates at a different time to give the adults-only crowd a suitable three-hour experience.

Alcohol and Water Parks Typically Don't Mix

While operational hours and lighting would present challenges for Water Country, the biggest hurdle would be alcohol consumption. There's a reason why Funtown's adults-only nights don't include access to Splashtown. Alcohol and swimming are not viewed by insurance as a profitable venture.

There could be possible ways around this for Water Country. For instance, an adults-only evening could consist of two hours of kid-free access to all the wonderful thrill rides at the park. That could be followed by a barbecue, adult beverages, and live music in a picnic area after the rides have closed down.

Will We Ever See Adults-Only Nights at Water Country?

Probably not. Water parks in New England already face steep challenges with shortened seasons and tumultuous weather. Adding a layer of complexity and risk by having adults-only nights is likely too much for even the most ambitious water park owner.
