Are those solar panels?  Yes, yes they are.

Wait.  Solar panels and a wood stove?  Could it be completely off-the-grid?

Yes, this adorable house is completely independent and off-the-grid.  Not only does it have solar panels and a wood stove, but also a generator and beautiful craftsmanship (from what I see). It's a strawbale house, and just look at that floor!

This property has 30 acres and a gorgeous deck.

Don't get too attached, however.  It was on the market for two days and is already under contract.  Asking price is $699K.  I'm thinking, however, that it may end up on Airbnb or Vrbo.

Parts of the house look like it was made out of stone, just like the ones in The Flintstones!

You may be wondering, "What exactly IS a strawbale house?" That's what went through my head.  It's made with straw.  Yes, the stuff that cows and sheep eat and horses sleep on.  It's packed tightly into the frame of the house.

The advantages of a strawbale house are many.  The house is more fire-resistant, and the materials used to build it are biodegradable.  However, there are also disadvantages, like bugs and mold.

I have to say, I'm a little obsessed with this house.  A house that is completely off -the-grid on 30 acres in Maine, less than a half hour from Portland and just over two hours from Boston?  Sign. Me. Up.

If this property does land on Airbnb, VRBO, or a similar site, I'll keep you in the loop.  Kudos to those who worked on this property.  And to whoever is buying it, I can come stay there anytime you want.
