It's that time of year again when the Ice Castles return to New Hampshire and I am sad to say that I have never been to see this magical place.

Thousands of people head to North Woodstock, New Hampshire to check out the Ice Castles.

The pictures online are amazing and every year, I think, I have to go.

Ice Castles in New Hampshire

The Ice Castles started in 2011.

The pictures and videos show ice and snow sculptures that are mind blowing during the day, then at night, the whole place glows.

It's kind of like the Northern Lights, but on steroids.

Where Are the Ice Castles in the U.S.?

According to their website, the Founder of the Ice Castles created his first sculpture in his own front yard in Utah for his children.  His six kids, yes, six, loved it so much that it caught on with kids from all over the neighborhood and now it's in five locations.

Here in New Hampshire and also in the following;

  • Cripple Creek, Colorado
  • Eagle, Colorado
  • Minnesota
  • Utah

What to Know Before You Go to Ice Castles in NH

If we go to the Ice Castles, we have to dress appropriately.  It's ice, it's winter and it's New Hampshire.  You need your hat and your mittens.

There are ice slides to slide down, so you might want to get those new ski pants out that you just bought at Kittery Trading Post.

You can also explore tunnels and caverns lined with icicles that look like they are from another world.

This is the year that I go, for real.  My nephew, Jeremiah, has a food cart up in Woodstock, and I will go visit him while I'm there.  I'm all about time management.

We can get our tickets here.
