This is so sad. One of our favorite restaurants, Caption Scott's Seafood Restaurant in Sandwich, Massachusetts has been destroyed.  Here's what people are saying about this iconic place.

Just Before the Busy Summer Season

Yesterday, May 4, 2025, we heard about the fire in Sandwich on WBZ News.  My husband and I would stop there many times on our way to visit family.

According to the news report, there were 44 firefighters who responded to the blaze and it took 7 hours to put out the fire.  It was so bad that they had to get an exavator on the scene to tear it down.

Thank goodness no one was hurt.

Captain Scott's Had Beautiful Renovations

Over the years, the restaurant had such beautiful renovations by the current owner, George Gossios, a/k/a "Junior."  He said it was an emotional day for him, but he will rebuild.

Some comments on Cape Cod Incident's Facebook page said as it was happening:

Wonderful people own it. My heart is breaking them. They have built this place to what it is today.
Just parked and saw it about 20 minutes ago. Still smoldering. Heard they are calling for heavy equipment to demolish it. I cried as it is ICON to Sandwich.
Horrific for the owner, I feel so bad that we’re getting all these fires just before summer. What the hell is going on?

Another comment from Cape Cod Restaurants Group Facebook page:

They did so much to renovate that building, with new bars, inside and outside. The place was a hidden gem. I’m so saddened to see this. My heart breaks for Junior Ito and the family.

There is a GoFundMe account that has been started for the family.  Make your donations by clicking here.
