According to a report from 24/7 Wall Street, New Hampshire is home to the 3rd largest gun manufacturer in the country and 6th in the entire world, Sig Sauer.

Three Men From Switzerland

In 1853, according to sigsauer.com, three men started what they thought would become a wagon factory in Switzerland. But by the next year, they took on the challenge of developing a rifle for the Swiss Army.

In that effort, the Sig Sauer website states that they changed the name of the company to Schweizerische Industrie-Gesellschaft (in English, Swiss Industrial Company) or SIG for short, and had a contract in hand for 30,000 muzzle-loading rifles.

The Move to America

Fast forward to the 1980s, when SIG set its sights on America by first moving to Virginia and then New Hampshire, according to the company website.

The name changed from SIG to SIGARMS in 1985, and then in 2007, it was once again changed to SIG SAUER, Inc.

Newington, New Hampshire

The Corporate Headquarters for SIG SAUER is now in Newington, New Hampshire.  The move was completed for that in 2014, according to the company website.

Wondering who the #1 and #2 gunmakers are in the United States?

Well, the second place in the U. S. is Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. out of Southport, Connecticut, according to 247wallst.com.

That leaves number one in the country as Smith & Wesson Corp. out of Springfield, Massachusetts.
