I'm just gonna say it.  There is no other grocery story in the entire U.S. that gets as much love as Massachusetts based Market Basket.  I wanted to know why.  I sure got some passionate, loyal comments about DeMoulas / Market Basket.

I asked this question:

"So many people love Market Basket. If you are one of them, why do you love it so much?"

I knew I would get positive feedback, but I didn't think I would get this many.  These are just a handful of the comments made on our Facebook page:

Holly:  "I moved from New England 3 years ago and I can say there is nothing like Market Basket. I truly miss the people, the prices, and the overall feeling of home."

Cheryl:  "I’ve shopped at my local Market Basket for 34 years. I feel I really do get more for my dollar."

Rebecca:  "Because you get more for your dollar that’s their slogan and it’s so true."
Tish:  "The old school decor, great prices, the rotisserie chicken is so good, and the bits & pieces tray from the deli is my husband's favorite thing"  (I love that too!  You can get some really great deli stuff for like... half the price!)
Dana:  "Prices are good and they have a lot of different options for you to choose from. The stores are clean and the people are friendly and helpful with questions. "

Barbara:  "I grew up in Lowell where it all started and I learned very young that  “you get more for your dollar at Demoulas”

Market Basket Hires People With Disabilities

John said:
"Because they hire challenged kids and adults give them self-esteem and a chance to make a living."
So true. Many times, the person bagging my groceries has an intellectual disability.  They are super friendly, will ask about what you buy and offer to help when you leave.  Love, love, love that.
Market Basket, according to Forbes, is a billion dollar business.  (That's a lot of "dollahs.")  To get that kind of love from a business so big is always mind-blowing to me.
I so agree with the above comments.  It's because of the old-school feel, the fact that they hire people who need help with managing their own lives and, I might be showing my age here, but we still think of this place as owned by the DeMoulas family.
