I wasn’t planning on staying.

It was St. Patrick’s Day, and I had just left Cara.  I was going to just walk home, but then decided I wanted food. I had one simple mission, grab a burger and fries from Christopher’s Third Street Grill in Dover and then head back home. Nothing fancy. Just food, couch, relax.

I even called ahead to make it easy.

But then… I walked in.

And that’s when things shifted a little.

Ellen, the bartender, greeted me and casually asked if I wanted a drink while I waited. And I thought, yeah… why not? So I ordered an Old Fashioned and grabbed a seat at the bar.

Within about two minutes, I realized something.

This place just felt… easy.

Comfortable.

Like I had been there before, even though I hadn’t.

So I pivoted.

I asked Ellen if she could just plate up my food instead of boxing it to go, and I decided to stay. Ended up sitting there, talking with her and a couple of people around the bar, just getting to know folks. Nothing forced. Just real conversation.

And honestly? That’s hard to find.

The burger was great. The fries hit. But it was the vibe that stuck with me.

Now here’s where it gets even better…

I walked back in about a week later. Same bar. Same seat. Same bartender. And before I could even really say anything, Ellen looks at me and says hi—by name. Remembers exactly what I ordered to drink and how I liked it.

That got me.

Then she asks if I want the same food order, and how I want it cooked.

That’s next-level.

That’s the kind of place that turns from “somewhere you tried” into “your spot.”

As someone who’s still getting to know New Hampshire, these are the moments I’m looking for. The places that feel like you belong a little bit the second time you walk in.

And for me… Christopher’s might be that place.

Also doesn’t hurt that it’s within walking distance of my apartment… which means there’s a very real chance I become a regular.

Or as they might call it…

A Friend of Christopher’s.
