Should the NFL Change Their Start Times for East Coast Fans?
You know the expression "The grass is always greener?"
Well, is it?
The other night my sister, a new football fan, was complaining to me about the 8:15 PM start time for Monday Night Football. As I wake up before 5 am every day, I joined in the complaining about the late start time.
Most East Coast football fans would probably prefer an earlier start time...or the West Coast football schedule.
On the West Coast, 1 PM games start at 10 AM. 4 PM games start at 1. And 8 PM games start at 5 PM.
The West Coast schedule seems AMAZING. I would love to watch football at 10 AM on Sundays, or watch Monday Night Football immediately after work at 5 PM.
Back to us East Coast people complaining about the late start times...I truthfully don't see an alternative.
If the NFL moved up the game start times at all, with respect to the East Coast people getting to bed at a reasonable hour, it would really screw the West Coast football fans.
An ideal start time for evening football games would be 6 - 7 pm. Well, that would be 3-4 pm for West Coast fans.
Which is not fair to the common 9-5 workers on the West Coast.
I have put too much thought into what times would be "fair" to both coasts...and the truth is, I think the NFL has it right.
Well, it is as fair as it can be.
What would you change the NFL start times to if you could? But be reasonable for West Coast fans too... it's a tricky thing to balance.
