Gibb’s Garage in Portsmouth, New Hampshire Suddenly Closes Just Before Summer

After a round of golf with my best friend, we were craving a cold beer and a burger. He had never been to Gibb's Garage on Lafayette Rd in Portsmouth. The unique, throwback automotive-themed restaurant had an awesome vibe, some of the best wait staff, and underrated food (like really good).

A minute in, we overheard the news - Monday, June 30, 2025, was going to be Gibbs's last day.

Gibb's had only been around for five years, but it became a quick staple on Route 1 in Portsmouth. The restaurant had the coolest collection of signs, cars, and all things automotive. And the food matched the epic scenery.

The Nashville Hot chicken sandwich was always a classic. The nachos were LOADED - never a dry chip. And no one finished a custom Mac and Cheese (with BBQ pork, bacon, or buffalo chicken) from Gibb's and didn't nap with a smile.

Gibb's hosted "Cruisin' Tuesdays,"  a car show every week, with classic burgers and milkshakes - the community loved this place. It was not just a restaurant. For many, it was a place to gather, hear live music, admire unique cars, and sit down for a meal as a family.

When my best friend and I overheard the news that Gibb's was going to close in just two days, we got to chatting with our bartender. We learned that it was sudden from their perspective. Fortunately, in the short time that the wait staff were told, many of them were able to find other opportunities at local eateries.
