New England states are often used in movies. Historically, a lot has happened in the north east.

Socially, Boston is a major city for celebrities, movie settings, housing/supplying extras, etc. Not to mention Boston's iconic landmarks: Fenway, Bunker Hill, Prudential Center, etc.

So movie producers and writers utilize Boston as a setting because it is home to some of the most recognizable landmarks.

But the opposite happens too - a movie becomes popular and an "everyday" place becomes a landmark or tourist trap from the movie.

Okay, that title probably belongs to the bench that Forest Gump sat on...but a close number two is this one, from a movie with 20+ awards ranging from Oscars, to Golden Globes, to Academy Awards, and so on.

Good Will Hunting Scene, Boston, Massachusetts

Good Will Hunting is about an MIT janitor (Matt Damon) who happens to be a brilliant mathematician. He needs and receives life coaching from a psychologist played by Robin Williams.

One of the most iconic and inspirational scenes in the movie took place on a bench in Boston Common.

After Robin Williams passed away in 2014, Damon, who grew up in Boston, traveled back to the bench.

Damon remembered how impactful Robin Williams' monologue was, he remembered him "crushing it," and knowing it was going to be an impactful part of the movie.

“I was back there recently and I went back to that bench,” Damon said according to an Independent article. “It’s right there in Boston Commons and I walked over there with my family and we sat on the bench...it was nice to go back and think about him there.”
