Everyone has seen the sledding grandmas TV commercial, which aired just about everywhere over the holidays.  It quickly became a favorite because it tugged at our heartstrings.

The older ladies in the commercial wished they were young again and could sled down that big hill without hurting themselves.  They quietly watched as the youngin's took turns sliding down the hill after a recent snowfall, and wished they could do the same.

Then arrives the package from Amazon, with seat cushions for each of the seasoned ladies.  They took their sleds and had a wondrous sled ride down the hill, transporting them back to their childhood.

That's where the Ladies Social Society Facebook friend group picks up the story.

The group does all kinds of adventures together, so when they saw the Amazon ad, they were inspired to buy some sleds, and wait for the first significant snowfall.

Last week, they got their wish.  Snow came down and their sleds were out.

I asked one of the members how this all came about, and this was her reply.

We are members of a neighborhood ladies club in Seabrook and we formed several special interest clubs (book, cards, lunch, hike golf, mahJong, etc). This fell into the hiking group. When I saw the Amazon Christmas ad this year, with the 3 senior friends, in awe of the kids sledding remembering those youthful days. I felt it would make for a great outing. Very spur of the moment as it is certainly weather dependent. We talked about it and had to get our sleds(at Ocean State Job Lot’s $15)Then we got our first snow on a Saturday and we saw a window of opportunity for Tuesday and rain was coming in on Wednesday! Another gal found the perfect spot at Stratham Hill Park, we posted on our website and 9 sledding Grannies were off to the park at noon. We made several runs over the hour and the climb back up was not to taxing on our older bodies. We laughed and screamed and even raced in tandem. We did tally the number of grandchildren combined and came up with 37. Some way more than others! It was a perfect day and we all LOVED it.

Now, isn't that what life should be all about?  Congrats, ladies. We love you for this and wish we could join your group!

For those who have not seen the TV commercial, here it is.
