Holiday Road Trip: Sparkling Lights Dazzle Outside Magnificent New England Mansion
Imagine experiencing the holiday season at a magnificent mansion that could've come straight from the pages of a 19th century novel.
You can do precisely that at the fourth annual Sparkling Lights at The Breakers in Newport, Rhode Island, just a short road trip away from New Hampshire and Maine.
Known as the grandest of Newport's "summer cottages", The Breakers was constructed by millionaire Cornelius Vanderbilt II in 1895, and symbolizes "the Vanderbilt family's social and financial pre-eminence in the Gilded Age," according to the property's official website. The exquisite and breathtaking mansion is visited by hundreds of thousands of people from around the world, and was officially designated a historic landmark in the 1990s.
This place is obviously stunning year-round, but it becomes even more special during Christmastime with Sparkling Lights at The Breakers. This year, from November 17 to December 30, 2023, prepare to be dazzled by hundreds of thousands of festive lights illuminating a half-mile-long path. As you go for a stroll and immerse yourself in the light-up displays, you'll hear the sounds of music filling the air, creating that perfect holiday ambiance.
You will also have the opportunity tour the interior of The Breakers, which is beautifully decorated in the spirit of the season. Of course, treats and adult beverages are available as well.
Trust us when we say that this event is worth the trip. Just look at this aerial shot of the property. How beautiful is this?
