In New England, we have a whole lot of history. It is not uncommon for a town to be a few hundred years old. But there is something also appealing about living in a newer town, because you get to make the history. Want to be the first woman to take out 100 books from the town library in a year? You could it!

The oldest town in New Hampshire is Dover, where this radio station calls home! It was established in 1692. For those of you keeping score at home, that's over 150 years older than America. Learn more about the rich history of the Garrison city here.

Compared to Dover, New Hampshire's youngest town is practically a newborn. Her name is Sugar Hill, and she was established in 1962. Why did I assume she's female? 'Cuz she's pretty!

Sugar Hill, New Hampshire, overlooks the White Mountains with views of the Presidential, Franconia, Kinsman, and Dalton ranges. In 2020, the population was 647. According to Wikipedia, the name Sugar Hill comes from the town's  large groves of sugar maples. They are also known for their gorgeous lupine blooms in June.

Before Sugar Hill was known as Sugar Hill in 1929, the first resort-based ski school in the country was established on the slopes of a hill in the town. This provided the push to the sport of skiing as we know it in America today.

Sugar Hill's other claims to fame are Polly’s Pancake Parlor and Harman's Cheese Store. Polly's is famous for its homemade pancakes, made from scratch and offering flavors like buttermilk, buckwheat, gingerbread, and more. They strive to use locally sourced ingredients, including Fuller’s Maple Syrup from Lancaster, New Hampshire.

According to, Harman’s Cheese & Country Store is located in the middle of Sugar Hill. It started as a mail-order business in 1955 (cheese in the mail, yes please!). The site goes on to explain that in 1981, the Aldrich family purchased the business and have continued building upon the business and offering natural, premium-grade, white cheddar cheese. Not only will you find these delicious cheeses, but you can also choose from hundreds of additional locally-made products as well.
