Salem Witch Trials is the Biggest Attraction
There are many beautiful towns in Massachusetts, but people flock to Salem because of the Salem Witch trials of the late 1600's.
At that time, the Puritans were inhabitants of Salem and surrounding towns. It was a brand new time in our country's history and the people were very religious.
It started with two young girls who fell ill. It was eventually believed, after medicine and other treatments, that the girls had been the victims of witchcraft, according to the salemwitchmuseum.com.
Over the course of the year 1692, between 150-200 people were jailed for witchcraft. Ultimately, 14 women and 5 men were hanged, one man was tortured to death, and at least five people perished in prison.

Even if you are not interested in the Salem Witch Trials, Salem is a great city to visit. The architecture of the town is just about as old as you can get with the exception of course, of St. Augustine in Florida. There are great restaurants and shops as well.
Be aware if you go to Salem in the month of October, everyone will be there too.
I have spent Halloween in Salem, Mass and it is an experience like no other. Contrary to what you may think, there is a peace that hangs over the city. Maybe the people that were wrongly put to death now watch over that place. Just a theory.
One quote that is etched into the city streets says something like, "God Knows I am Innocent." Powerful stuff for a powerful city.
