Maine and Massachusetts Colleges Rank High for Most Expensive Colleges in Country

It’s no breaking news that the price of college in America is absurd. It’s inaccessible to a lot of people who need it most and those who do have the privilege of pursuing a higher education get chained down to loans that are impossible to pay off.
You would think we would want to encourage young generations to advance their knowledge and education and obtain degrees that will change their lives but instead we have a system in place that allows those who are already ahead to advance even further beyond their peers.
If we want more people to go to school, we need to lower the cost. Community Colleges in Maine have proved if you make education financially accessible, people will go.
But, for most schools, a lower cost isn’t on the horizon. CBS recently ranked the most expensive colleges in the country using National Center for Education Statistics and colleges in Maine and Massachusetts were high on the list.
Most Expensive Colleges in the Country
Using data from NCES, CBS released a list of four-year institutions ranked by their published out-of-state tuition, annual fees, and residential charges. Here are some of the Maine and Massachusettes schools that made the list:
#34 - Boston University - $74,712
#33 - Colby College - $74,724
#21 - Boston College - $75,422
#10 - Wellesley College - $76,220
#5 - Tufts University - $76,492
#3 - Amherst College - $76,800
These are ANNUAL costs. To pursue higher education at these institutions before financial aid, you’re looking at a whopping quarter of a million dollars. And we all know how crappy the system is dealing with financial aid!!
This is ridiculous. We hear complaints about not enough kids going to college but how can you expect them to put themselves in these financial positions? It’s ludicrous!
