Seth Vosmus missing

We've been lucky with amazing weather pretty much every single weekend of Summer 2022, which has seen many Mainers take advantage and either hit the beach for some sun and relaxation or rivers and lakes to take their boats and kayaks out for some adventure. And that seems to be what New Gloucester resident Seth Vosmus had planned this past weekend when he took his truck to Porter's Landing in Freeport.

Unfortunately, Seth hasn't been seen or heard from since.

The Sheriff's Office in Freeport told NEWS CENTER Maine that Seth's truck was found at Porter's Landing, which was confirmed by Seth's friend Joanna Forbes. And after confirming the truck findings, Joanna went on to do the most Maine thing ever for her friend.

Stranger Mainers gathered to find Seth yesterday

Not that Joanna really had to twist many or any arms because events like this truly define the spirit of Maine, but Joanna pleaded with locals and even those from away who frequent the Portland, Maine group on Facebook to gather and help find Seth. In her post, Joanna mentioned that Seth may be in a 9-foot green kayak and could be (at least, they were hoping) on or near Moshier Island, which is a pretty decent distance away from Porter's Landing.

Joanna's post also called for strangers to come together to help find Seth, mentioning that Good Samaritans had already planned on meeting on Moshier Island at 9a yesterday to conduct a search. But that's not all the searching that was done, as boat owners hit the Harraseekett River to search the area as well.

And while Seth himself unfortunately hasn't been found yet, a woman named Jade Reeves Parker mentioned that she was part of a crew that actually found Seth's kayak right near Moshier Island, which was later picked up by marine patrol.

Also, according to other comments on Joanna's post, Seth's phone and other belongings were all found in his truck. Although, interestingly enough, a man by the name of Kevin Oliver said that he had Facebook Messenger contact with Seth on Saturday, August 27 at 12:08a (late Friday night/early Saturday morning.)

The mystery around where Seth may continue on, but so are the selfless acts of Mainers who want a complete stranger in Joanna (and the entire Vosmus Family) find Seth. If you have or discover any additional information about Seth's whereabouts, reach out to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department at 207-893-2810 or dial 911.

Joanna's post mentions that a $3,000 reward is being offered for finding Seth, but it wouldn't surprise me if Mainers said, "Thanks, but no thanks." Because the Maine Spirit isn't worried about money, it's about looking out for one of our own.
