UPDATE: A phone call to the South Portland Macaroni Grill on Thursday, December 2, revealed an automated message that said: "Thank you for calling Romano's Macaroni Grill. We are currently closed for renovations. We are looking forward to reopening back up after the new year."

According to the Portland Press Herald, the South Portland Macaroni Grill near the Maine Mall has temporarily closed.

The newspaper, at the time of the article's publication, had reached out to the company through its social channels for any update but was unable to get a response from anyone.

Macaroni Grill is a chain restaurant headquartered in Denver with the South Portland location the only one in Maine.

The Press Herald did mention a woman and her mother had a reservation for Thanksgiving but were not contacted about the closing or cancelation of the reservation.

There does seem to be a sign on the building that mentions the temporary closure.

We did try calling the South Portland number again on Thursday, December 2, and this time got an automated message about the closure:

"Thank you for calling Romano's Macaroni Grill. We are currently closed for renovations. We are looking forward to reopening back up after the new year."

I've been to the restaurant a couple of times. It's OK, but we live in Maine with so many great restaurants, that it wasn't a regular stop for me. The only thing I remember about Macaroni Grill is that the table cloth was a sheet of butcher paper that you could draw on with crayons. The waiter or waitress would draw their name (usually upside down for them) and that made it different.

So before you head to South Portland to Macaroni Grill this 2021, they are currently closed. Look out for more updates in the new year.
