Well, here's a big baseball announcement.

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats revealed on its Facebook page a surprising change to their name.

Turns out, the Fisher Cats will become the Space Potatoes. That's not an April Fool's joke.

New Hampshire Space Potatoes

Wondering how they landed on Space Potatoes? Well, it all stems from a little Granite State history.

First, you've got the fact that, according to NH.gov, New Hampshire was the first state to "cultivate the white potato."

And then there are some famous UFO cases in New Hampshire, including Betty and Barney Hill's 1961 abduction and the 1965 Exeter incident.

Smash 'em together, and you've got the Space Potatoes. Clever, right?

This isn't the first time the Fisher Cats have transformed into a "new" team. Remember when they became the Manchester Chicken Tenders and Gatos Feroces a few years ago?

The name change won't be permanent, so if you're worried, don't be. It's only for a few games.

When Will the New Hampshire Space Potatoes Play?

For a few select nights, the Fisher Cats will take the field as the Space Potatoes.

According to the baseball team's website, there will be three Space Potatoes games: Saturday, April 19, Friday, July 18, and Saturday, August 30.

The team will don their Space Potatoes purple, black and green jerseys and hats, complete with a UFO hovering over a baseball-playing potato.

Of course, you can get Space Potatoes gear for yourself if you want.

What do you think of the Space Potatoes? Will you be checking out their games this year? What's a new name you would love to see the New Hampshire baseball team try out next time?
