Newburyport police and the U.S. Coast Guard are among the agencies looking for a man last seen early Saturday morning at a boat club where his cell phone and backpack were found aboard a docked boat.

The girlfriend of Kevin Mahoney, 33, of Newbury, notified police Saturday night that she last saw him at the intersection of Water and Federal streets in Newburyport around midnight, according to City Marshal Mark Murray.

A member of the North End Boat Club on Merrimac Street told police they saw Mahoney around 1:30 a.m. outside the building. His cell phone and backpack were found aboard a boat owned by Mahoney’s family, which is docked at the club, according to Murray, who said Mahoney was last seen in the club's driveway.

An air, ground and water search was started Saturday evening that also involved the Massachusetts Environmental Police, Massachusetts State Police, Newburyport Fire Department and Newburyport Harbormaster. The area around the boat club was searched and its security footage is being checked.

Mahoney was last seen wearing a salmon-colored golf/polo shirt, khaki shorts and tan boat-style shoes. He is 6 feet 2 inches and weighs approximately 200 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Mahoney's sister in a Facebook post said his car was also found at the club. She was organizing a search on Sunday morning.

Murray asked anyone with information about Mahoney to contact Newburyport Police at 978-462-4411.
