Dover police is investigating the death of a 23-year-old male at the emergency shelter inside The Garrison Hotel in Dover, police announced.

Police say they responded along with Dover Fire & Rescue to the hotel to find the unresponsive individual, adding that his death appeared to be drug-related. However, police said, the cause and manner of the male’s death remain under investigation by Dover police and the city's Chief Medical Examiner.

No further information will be released by police, including the identity of the man who died, until all extended family has been notified, police said.

The emergency winter shelter at The Garrison Hotel only just began operation on November 16 as part of the Tri-Cities Joint Task Force on Homelessness.
