During the height of the summer tourist season in 2021, one of Maine's most popular destinations lost one of its most popular restaurants. Locals and repeat visitors were stunned when they woke up on the morning of July 19th to find that Joseph's By The Sea in Old Orchard Beach had been devastated by fire. Even worse, there was concern that the business could be closed for a very long time, perhaps forever.

Those concerns eased over time and according to Saco Bay News, the summertime Old Orchard Beach crowd can rejoice because Joseph's By The Sea will definitely be back for 2022. The McCrum family, whom purchased the iconic restaurant in 2020, have announced that their tentative plan is to reopen Joseph's By The Sea in the first week of May if everything goes to plan. They plan to continue to update their social media with a firm opening date in the coming weeks.

One thing is known for sure; the reopening of Joseph's By The Sea is going to be well-received. Joseph's By The Sea has been a staple for tourists visiting the area for decades. For many locals, it's where they've held birthday parties, anniversaries, or even tied the knot. Joseph's has managed to toe the line between offering upscale dining and service while not feeling too stuffy for the everyday person to walk in.

Based on the enthusiasm of the Joseph's By The Sea reopening announcement, 2022 could be a record-breaking year for attendance in Old Orchard Beach.
