Here in New England, we know we're lucky to live in one of the best parts of the US.

Over the years, countless studies have directed high praise towards our region. Last year, a WalletHub study announced the best small cities in the country, and eight New England towns made the list. Our area has also been recognized for having the most magical winter wonderland townshottest zip codesunderrated destinations, safest towns, and more.

Now, HGTV is chiming in by publishing a list of the 50 most charming small towns in America. These towns are described as the "hidden gems" of their respective states, complete with "quaint shops and restaurants, fascinating histories, fun experiences and natural beauty."

Honestly, there are multiple New Hampshire towns that could fit that description. Many of our state's communities are charming and historic, home to plenty of shops and dining options, and set against a lovely backdrop of natural scenery. But which one is the most charming in the Granite State, according to HGTV?

That honor goes to Littleton, New Hampshire, located in the White Mountains region.

HGTV cited several factors for this verdict, including the town's walkability, old-fashioned shops, and "elegant, historic lodgings." They specifically gave a shoutout to Chutters, "home to the world’s longest candy counter", Lahout’s (America's oldest ski shop), and Thayers Inn, dating back to 1850.

This writer has never been to Littleton, but knows that locals have praised the area for having one of the best downtowns in the state. Here are some other popular downtowns in New Hampshire.
