4 Dead in Rollinsford, New Hampshire, Head-On Crash
Four men including three from South Berwick were killed in a head-on crash between a mini-van and an SUV Sunday night in Rollinsford.
Rollinsford Police said a 2014 Subaru Forester traveling eastbound on Portland Avenue (Route 4) crossed into the westbound lanes and into oncoming traffic, colliding with a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan around 8:30 p.m.
The man driving the Subaru, the only person in the vehicle, and an adult male passenger in the Dodge were pronounced dead at the scene. The man driving the Dodge and an adult male passenger were taken to hospitals with life-threatening injuries, and were pronounced dead.
Rollinsford Fire Chief Mark Rutherford told Seacoast Current that the Subaru was driving erratically before the crash. Its speed has not yet been determined.
The Subaru burst into flames at impact, according to Rutherford.
The occupants of the Dodge were identified by Rollinsford Police as Peter Ronchi, 58, Gavin Sorge Jr, 22, and Sean Kamszik, 23. The driver of the Subaru's identity was not disclosed pending notification of family.
Ronchi was a member of the Portsmouth Department of Public Works Water Division.
"It was with shock and the deepest sadness that we learned this morning of the tragic loss of one of our own," Mayor Deaglan McEachern, City Manager Karen Conard and DPW Director Peter Rice said in a joint statement. "Our hearts go out to his family and the families of the others lost in the collision last night. All are gone from us too soon."
Sorge worked at the Museum of New Art (MONA) in Portsmouth, according to their Facebook page.
"We were blessed to have him join our team this Spring and his charming personality and genuine love of the arts made him a wonderful addition to MONA. He was a joy! He had his own incredible style that made us smile and was someone we could always count on, someone who you could 'Call me anytime day or night!' - Blondie," the museum wrote.
Dover, Somersworth, and South Berwick Police assisted at the scene along with the Dovera and South Berwick Fire Departments. NH Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, NH Fire Marshal’s Office, Rollinsford Highway Department, and NH Department of Transportation also responded.
