Best news evah!
I've been to plenty of concerts and Sox games and have always been bummed that I couldn't take the Downeaster back home to Maine. But the Downeaster is now leaving almost an hour later whenever the Red Sox play or there's a concert at the TD Garden. Now the last train will leave at 11:25 pm. It will leave Boston at the regular 10:30 pm on all other nights.
This is part of their summer schedule starting this week. That means that the seasonal service to Old Orchard Beach starts too! MaineBiz said that Amtrak also has a Discover Maine Rail Pass. It's 10 one-way trips on the Amtrak Downeaster between any Maine station for 7 days and it's just $19 per person. It's perfect to get around Maine and leave the car behind.
With the Sox not having the best start, having someone else (Amtrak) handle the drive home and avoiding that Boston post-Red Sox traffic is SUCH a bonus. That way you can just sit and gaze out the window and wonder, do they have it in them to climb out of last place?
Or if you are going to see Kevin Hart at TD Garden in July, it's such a bonus to be able to just hop on the Downeaster and talk about all your favorite jokes!
Here's the schedule for the Amtrak Downeaster. Here's the schedule for the Red Sox. Here's the schedule of TD Garden. Maybe this is the summer of YOU. All cooped up in the house for the last couple of years you deserve to treat yourself!
