These days, most people would consider drive-in theaters to be a thing of the past.

According to this US News article, around 300 of these cinematic structures are still operational in the US as of 2020. This is a drastic decrease compared to the ~4,000 that once existed during the peak of drive-ins in the '50s and '60s, according to Smithsonian Magazine.

As a Gen Z-er, yours truly unfortunately can't relate to the memories that many have of nights out with loved ones at the drive-in. Various films have attempted to bring the unique atmosphere of these places to life, but it's still not the same.

While some of today's remaining drive-ins may not gather the crowds they once did, these theaters are undoubtedly a sentimental blast from the past for many.

But what about New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts, specifically? What drive-ins are still operational in our neck of the woods?

According to driveinmovie.com, which calls itself "the internet's oldest drive-in movie resource," there are currently two open drive-ins in New Hampshire, six in Maine, and two in Massachusetts. There's also an additional drive-in that straddles the New Hampshire/Massachusetts border, bringing the total to 11.

Let's take a look at these special theaters, where they're located, and what's playing.

What memories do you have of drive-ins? Is your favorite one on this list, or has it sadly closed?
