Aerosmith Began at This New Hampshire Restaurant When Steven Tyler Met Joe Perry
The New Hampshire Spark That Turned Into a Wildfire
You have probably heard by now that Aerosmith has completely cancelled their upcoming dates for the Peace Out: The Farewell Tour and retired from touring for good. This is after the first round of dates was postponed.
The band statement cites Steven Tyler's vocal cords, and how they are not where they should be. This is particularly sad news for New England fans who have loved the band since the beginning, when Steven Tyler and Joe Perry met at this Sunapee, New Hampshire, restaurant.
When I heard this news, it made me dive into the band's catalog of kickass rock and roll. I'm not even going to go into each album, which ones are my favorite tracks, and how the last track on each record is vastly different from the rest of the album on purpose, etc., because nobody has time for that.

Aerosmith Started in New Hampshire
The Anchorage, located at 71 Main Street in Sunapee, is a restaurant that Steven referred to in his interview with Oprah about 12 years ago when he was a judge on American Idol, Season 10. In the interview, he said that when he met Joe Perry at the restaurant, he was making fries. Then, as Steven was mowing the front lawn at the family home, Joe invited him to see him play. A spark was born, which turned into a firestorm of rock and roll that has lasted over 50 years.
The Anchorage is still in operation in Sunapee today, but is currently closed for renovations at the time of this writing.
Bonus content: Steven was talking to Oprah about the smell of Lake Winnipesaukee when he takes his canoe out. If you know that smell, you know exactly how he feels. It smells like home.
I've always thought Steven was the coolest, most talented rock star on the planet. And the fact that he vacationed here in New Hampshire still blows my mind. I know he was born in Brooklyn, but Steven will always be part of the Bad Boys From Boston. His voice will forever be rock star perfection.
