Whether you like it or not, there is no denying that Marylou's Coffee has grown into one of the fastest coffee brands in New England.

It's getting popular...quickly.

With a slogan of "best coffee in town," it must be pretty good, or a cocky coffee.

Marylou’s first opened in 1986, and operates out of more than 40 locations across Massachusetts and Rhode Island, according to their website.

In October of 2022, the growing coffee chain opened their most northern location at 225 Waverley Oaks Road in Waltham, MA.

"Marylou’s has always emphasized the quality of our coffee and the hometown enthusiasm of our team members," according to their website. "We’ve always encouraged each employee to know the favorites of their regular patrons and greet new customers as if they had been coming daily."

When I was reading the website, I also came across the following:

"As we continue to expand throughout New England, we stick to the same principles in each new store: Convenient, Friendly Service and 'The Best Coffee in Town.'"

So, where is next?

If I were a gambling man, I would assume the North Shore. Towns in northeast Massachusetts, such as Newburyport, Salisbury, or Ipswich, would be great locations. Following that, I would guess Portsmouth, Dover, Keene, or maybe Manchester.

Aroma Joe's and Marylou's are a bit opposite. Based on locations on a map, Aroma Joe's owns the north, with locations scattered throughout New Hampshire, Maine, and northern Massachusetts. Marylou's starts more south, and Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts are theirs. As they expand, they are continuing to work their way north.

It will be interesting to see is Marylou's takes over Aroma Joe's, threatens Starbucks, or intimidates the king of the coffee throne...Dunks.

For now, Marylou's opened their most recent and northernmost location in Waltham. For those who live nearby, they are hiring. Open interviews will be held Saturday 10/15 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
