New Hampshire Crushes National Study: Top State to Raise a Family

The best place to live is often in the eyes of the beholder.

Some like mountains, ocean, heat, cold, city and busy, or town and quiet. To each their own, as they say.

One thing many can agree on is that some places are better for raising a family than others. So for example, I have really enjoyed two vacations in New Orleans. That said, I would not recommend raising a family on or near Bourbon Street.

Figuring out where to raise a family is critical. If you have the ability to move to a state where raising a family is better, wouldn't you?

So in order to find the best state to raise a family, WalletHub compared all 50 US states across 51 key indicators of "family-friendliness." The indicators included, but were not limited to: median family income, affordable housing, child care cost, violent crimes per capita, percentage of families in poverty, and more.

New England states fared well.

For the "violent crimes per capita" category, Maine ranked #1. New Hampshire followed in at #2, Vermont #3, and Connecticut #4.

Regarding states with the lowest percentage in poverty, New Hampshire ranked #1.

Below is a map of the US. The darker the blue, the better it is to raise a family.

Like I said, New England States fared well. Massachusetts ended up being the best state to raise a family, according to this study anyway.

As far as New Hampshire, the "live free or die" state ranked #6 overall.

According to the main indicators of the study, New Hampshire ranked:

#3 state for "health and safety."

#5 state for "education and child care"

#8 state for "socioeconomics."

#22 in "affordability."

#36 in "family fun". I disagree. There are tons of family fun things to do in the 603. They're just outside, not in a metropolitan area.
