New Hampshire, Makes Some Noise for This 89-Year-Old SNHU Masters Graduate

Meet Joan Donavan, the 89-year-old from Punta Gorda, Florida.

This amazing great-grandmother of nine just graduated from Southern New Hampshire University with her masters in creative writing, according to an ABC News article.

Joan had always wanted to go on to further her education, but like many of us, she got busy.

Between kids, grandkids, and great grandkids, Joan put her goals on pause for her family and life. But nothing could stop her from eventually achieving her goal, not even 60 years of time.

Joan is living proof that you are never too old to chase your dreams.

"I couldn't wait to get up in the morning to go to school," said Donavan about her bachelor degree that she obtained when she was 84 years young, accoridng to ABC News. "I met the most wonderful, intelligent people and professors and just everyone surrounded me with encouragement and support. And I learned that I had a love for writing. That's when I found Southern New Hampshire University, which is a wonderful school too and I just loved every minute of it."

Now that Joan has her master's degree, her next goal is to complete an autobiography.

"Well, I waited 60 years to fulfill my dream, So I hope others (dreams) don't have to wait that long," said Donovan about her autobiography to ABC News.

Her book will be about overcoming the "roadblocks" of life. Seems fitting.

It is crazy think that at one point, Joan said that “I was afraid to try college." But now, she says "try things. If you fail, try it again ... but just keep trying,” according to SNHU.

Joan celebrated with balloons, family, and a bit of a party. "Took me two days to recuperate from it because of the whole wonderful, wonderful event that they planned," said Donavan to ABC news. "I just can't tell you how excited I was."
