The weather seems to be fickle for February, but here's a way to beat Mother Nature at her own game.

You have to be smart, adaptable, and adventurous, but this may be the best idea in Portsmouth for a fun girls day or a dinner with friends, with a view of course.

Just because the open terrace is closed in the winter doesn't mean you can't enjoy the beauty of Portsmouth at the Rooftop at the Envio.

It's one of the hottest spots in town in the summer and early fall, so why not make it special in the winter, too?  That's just what Colwen Hotels did with special 360 degree see-through igloos high atop the hotel.

In addition, these igloos are themed 'fire' and 'ice'.  One is filled with cool aesthetics, like white fur blankets, white pillows, and white lights with gold accents. The other is also cozy, with couches as well as comfy chairs (as in the 'ice' igloo).  However, the 'fire' igloo features additions like red fur blankets and pillow, and lights with gold accents to create a hot aura.

The 360 degree view is spectacular, unlike many winter dining igloos which only have one-sided views.  Also, few igloos are high up over the city. You can enjoy cocktails, appetizers, or dinner.

Each igloos accommodates up to six adults, with two heaters, and a bluetooth speaker is available upon request.  Check out more photos, fees, and reservations at rooftopportsmouth.com.  Hot tip: rental fees are waived on Mondays.

If you're looking for something different than just dinner in an igloo, try an hour or two inside the most view-pleasing igloos on the Seacoast.  Your friends and family will be impressed you thought of this.
