Skijoring
Today I learned a new word: "Skijoring".
Skijoring is a Norwegian word that means ski driving, and it is coming to the Topsham Fairgrounds. Think water skiing, only it's on land and you're being pulled a horse instead of a boat.
This event was recently announced by the Topsham Fair, and sounds like a really fun and unique event to witness.
It's a sport that many in this part of the country don't know of, but is popular in other areas.
Horse Illustrated explains that skijoring can be done canine or equestrian-style, with either a horse or dogs pulling a skier. There are obstacles such as gates and jumps to contend with as well.
Basically, it's a race around the track with the horse leading the way with a rider on its back and a skier or skijorer holding on to a line attached to the saddle horn.
