Boston Magazine: Don't Ignore Biddeford, Maine, as Next Getaway

Wild.

As a Mainer, (and don't take this the wrong way, Biddo), I never thought I'd see the words "weekend getaway" and "Biddeford" in the same sentence. Here we are though.

Would you have thought to name Biddeford as your next vacation destination?

Why is Biddeford a Getaway Attraction?

Boston Magazine decided to write up a profile on Biddeford and call out why it's a place worth checking out. And I have to agree with them.

According to bostonmagazine.com,

"It's only recently that [Portland's] neighbor to the south, Biddeford, has blossomed into a destination in its own right. Towering brick buildings once home to busy mills now house award-winning bars, restaurants, breweries, and distilleries. Throw in a hip new hotel, and you’ve got yourself a delicious treat in the form of a weekend getaway".

One of the "must-visit" restaurants the magazine mentions in Biddeford is a little place called Palace Diner.

It has about 15 seats total, and to Mainers is a classic.

We love a good breakfast bar. The last time I ate brunch here, I came home with enough food to feed myself for the rest of the week that's how intense their portions are. Worth it.

Also mentioned in the magazine's feature on Biddeford are the different types of antique shops, riverwalks, and breweries.

Actually, one of my go-to breweries is out there, called Banded Brewing Co.

Did you know that Biddeford is the eighth fastest-growing city in the state? You bet it is.

And the more you actually decide to do a little research on what's in Biddeford (and the Boston Magazine write-up sure helps narrow things down), the more it really does stand out as a place to check out.

So, the magazine might not be too wrong here with Biddeford being up and coming. I'll give it to them.

Honestly, I have a lot of friends moving to the Saco/Biddeford area since the cost of living has gotten so outrageous near the city.

A weekend stay at a hotel out there may not even be too pricey!

To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
