If you have ever wanted to learn how to draw using oil pastels, the University of New Hampshire's Professional Development and Training program has an opportunity to try it next Tuesday.

On June 29, instructor Jamie Bowman will be teaching a workshop on strategies to capture the natural world in color.

Participants will learn to see value, which is important in color mixing. They will also learn how to layer oil pastels to make a large range of colors and to simplify subjects that are full of detail.

The class will take place at 231 Corporate Drive in Portsmouth. Participants will be required to bring one box of oil pastels, a pencil, an eraser and a pad of drawing paper.

Tuition is $169 and the course takes place between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

There will be a second course on Aug. 19.
